COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS

Domestic violence is a public problem. It affects the workplace and the wider community. Over 50% of Domestic violence victims experience violence while at their workplace. Employers have a responsibility to keep their workers safe while at the workplace. Join us to learn how to identify domestic violence in the workplace, support employees who are experiencing domestic violence and create workplace violence prevention policies in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety.

These two workshops look at what’s happening in our children’s brains when they have anxiety and how this affects them. Through this lens, we will look at some tips for how to help our children cope with anxiety.

CHILD BRAIN DEVELOPMENT SERIES

Did you know that building a brain is like building a house? And that it is a child’s experiences that build their brain? Through an interactive game you will build a brain based on the different experiences that it has in the first 8 years of life. This game highlights the importance of the first 5 years of a child’s life for their brain development.

Why is it that some children just cannot seem to keep themselves calm? Why do some children appear to lose control when an event happens while others can cope with it? What can we do to help those children that are struggling to regulate their emotions? In this session, we will look at these three questions through the lens of Brain Science to give us some insight into what is going on for these children.

One of the biggest frustrations for children is when they are not able to communicate to someone else what they want or what they need. In this session we will look at why, when children experience strong emotions, they struggle to express or communicate them. We will look at some day to day activities that help children to communicate their emotions in general and some ideas that can help for those moments when a child is struggling to communicate.
