SAFE PET PROGRAM

47% of domestic violence victims have delayed leaving their abusers out of fear of harm to their pets.

WHY ARE WE PET FRIENDLY?

56% of women seeking refuge in women’s shelters reported that the abuser had threatened or had harmed their pet. At Crossroads we receive many calls from women fleeing domestic violence who want to bring their animals with them.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

  • We make it possible for women fleeing abuse to bring their pets with them to our emergency shelter. They can be housed safely either in our shelter or in our pet kennel facility.
  • Through our local veterinary clinic we offer a pet health check up and access to recommended vaccinations
  • We provide basic needs for the pets including food, bedding, wash station, toys etc.
  • We provide short term care for pets to allow residents and outreach clients to attend appointments and treatment programs without fear of harm coming to their pets.
  • We understand that pets are part of the family and we do everything we can to make them feel safe and comfortable during their stay with us.
